Feeling Free Friday: CheriBundi Winner! Plus...

Okay, first of all guess who's headlining the Savanna Rock N' Roll Marathon concert this November?!

They sent out the email yesterday. I'm pretty excited. My son voted for him during his American Idol season, so can't  wait to see him live. Little D will get a kick out of it.
Now without further adieu:

Congrats to:
Email me your address and your package will be on it's way!

Don't worry, if you didn't win this round, you can still use this promo code for 5% off your order from until July 1st:

Pluuuusss...I've been testing out EnergyBits and finding them to be quite amazing. And you know I like to share! My new friends at EnergyBits have offered to GIVEAWAY a free pack to one of my lucky readers. I'll have a full EnergyBits review ready next week along with hosting another giveaway.

Hope everyone has an amazing weekend! I'm keeping this post short and to the point. I've got a full and busy Friday (and work all weekend) ahead of me. The kid is leaving for camp for a whole week. I've never been away from him for so long! It's kind of breaking my heart. But it's so important for him to have this time of learning and independence away from his momma. You must let them go so they can grow. Still trying to remain positive. I'm glad marathon training starts next week to keep my mind busy while little D is away. :-( Still getting the workouts in this week too...minus one easy three miler. But that one was scheduled for if I had any energy left. Yesterday, that was a no. I felt overwhelmingly exhausted.
*le sigh*

Any fun Weekend plans? Have you heard of EnergyBits? How's your energy levels this week?

RQOTD: donuts or muffins if you're going to cheat?
I like muffins...lemon poppy seed with sugary sprinkles on top!

Focusing On The Good: #WisdomWednesday

Having a long, stressful workweek can feel, well, stressful! It's all too easy to allow yourself to become bogged down with work and many of the negativities that rolls with it. You really have to anchor down to all the good and beautiful that surrounds you to help push you along. Because it's there. Just see it.
5 positive things that are helping me get through this forever long workweek:

1.) yoga on Wednesday!! And what's even better about yoga class is that it's a whole hour of relaxation with my fiancé. I always look forward to our class together.

2.) having a great running schedule laid out and executing it well. I've got two done thus far! Feeling like a champ. I officially start marathon training next week. Wooohooo! <insert happy dance>

3.) peanut butter cupcakes. My future husband made some for me last night after I got off work. And he doesn't even like peanut butter. He knew I had a long week ahead and a late night that night so he helped 'sweeten' me up. Yes, my fiancé is awesome. No you can not have him.

4.) my son. If you're a fan on my facebook page you've read what silly thing he said regarding my Garmin. If not, go like Flying Feet in Faith and check it out. He brightens my day! He will also be going away to camp for a whole week next week. :-( he's growing way too fast!

5.) keeping my eye on the prize! My wedding dress is in! Yay! So I get to go next Monday to try it on.... When I finally have a day off work!!

***What positive is currently in your life? What helps you get through a long week?***

#MotivationalMonday: The Week Before Marathon Training Begins!

It's like waiting for Christmas! The week before freaking Christmas! I've been waiting all winter and spring to get my rear into gear for a marathon. I've been slowly building mileage to about 25+/- per week so when I so start mt it won't be such a shock to my body's system with speedwork, tempos and long runs. Last week was a bit of a wash so I figure if I spill the beans on my intended workout goals then I'd be more inclined to complete them. Maybe? I don't know. Worth a shot. But oh, it also gives me a great reason to try out my sample pack of Energy Bits that came in the mail. I ate them 20 mins pre workout this morning. I'd say they work! I completed my speed session and was able to jog all my rest intervals when I normally would jog/walk my RIs. Nothing spectacular like crazy-super-hyper energy, but it felt like a natural stream of energy. Which is good! No crash. Still plugging along just fine through my work day too.
Anyways... I'm getting WAY ahead of myself. Look out for a full review and giveaway next week!

For now head over to my post from last week to enter my CheriBundi smoothie pack giveaway. You definitely don't want to miss out on that! So yum! And the cherry powers (reduce muscle inflammation, better sleep, quicker recovery..etc) are amazing. No embellishing here. It's a true story.

So anyway, my week's workout goals look roughly like this:
**I also work seven consecutive days working a variety of shifts in the pharmacy... So I'm curious to see how I hold out.**
Monday: 6:30 am 5 miles speed work treadmill at home  -- done!
Tuesday: 7:00 am 6 miles hills with kid on bike riding alongside
Wednesday: 6:40 pm Vinyasa yoga class at gym  oooommmmm
Thursday: 6:00 pm arm/chest weight session post work-shift + easy 3 miles
Friday: 4:45 am 6 mile tempo on treadmill
Saturday: optional rest day
Sunday: 6:45 am easy 8 miles
Goal total: 28 miles

Ugh. As you can see my schedule varies. It shifts from early am to late pm and it is never a set thing each week. Each week day --week to week also-- differs so I'm constantly having to switch up which days I can weight train or run. The only consistency is the Wednesday night yoga.
Here we go!

**Do you have a set workout/running schedule? Any training plans starting up for you?**
RQOTD: Chocolate or vanilla ice cream?
Vanilla girl here!!

Lazy and Trashy

L-A-Z-Y. Yup. That's me...and a trashy diet to go along with it.
All I got in was about 6 (slow) miles. And a few good burgers. We did still hit our yoga class on Wednesday and one good  weight session, but I was appalled at my lack of running this week. When I compare myself to other "real" runners, many are super hard core and it can be intimidating. It goes like this:

"No excuses!"
"Go hard!"
"You must stay healthy and fit ALL THE TIME."
"Vacation? No reason not to run and workout. Get fit in."
"School is out? Kid at home? Work around them!"

And you know what? These ideas aren't bad in themselves and I definitely live by these "mottos" often. But sometimes it just needs to take a backseat.

Well.... I guess I threw all that out the window this past week. Because you know what? I'm real. I've got a son. Family. A j-o-b. A life outside of "training" and fitness. (But hopefully will have a j-o-b in the fitness field by next year!)
We hit Dollywood (a theme park in Tenn.) this past Saturday and had a blast! I will say we did stay hydrated well with water and did tons of walking. So kiiiiinda healthy. Just excuse the burger and monkey bread. Just being able to hang with my guys was a blast. We had no worries. And to me, that's priceless compared to a run! Although I still love my run. Don't get me wrong!

One of the benefits of allowing ourselves to have a lazy week (as long as we don't make it habitual thing) is that we get the rest our bodies crave  and our minds desperately need. And you know what? The next week you're ready to rock! You'll more than likely be faster and stronger.
So if you find yourself feeling guilty or ashamed because you missed a week (or two) of training because of real life, please don't beat yourself up. You are human. Life is too short to worry about how many miles you missed.
You didn't miss anything. You'll be just fine my friend.

"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."
1 Timothy 4:8

**What about you? Do you freak if you miss a week of training? Any cool theme parks your way? Summer is for fun!**

GIVEAWAY CheriBundi Smoothie Packs

Okay so you all know I love some CheriBundi. You'll probably see me refer to the product quite often. Not because I'm paid to or because I like promoting goods, it's just simply that I like them. A lot.
Here's a few good reasons you might too:

  • Non-GMO
  • 100% organic
  • Packed with phytonutrients
  • Full of antioxidants
  • Ingredients you can read and pronounce
  • Farmer grown and supported
  • Naturally packed with antioxidants
  • Muscle recovery and soreness aid
  • And the obvious, it just tastes really good

Cherry+Mango=heaven on the tastebuds!

Here's the product I focused on this week, smoothie packs. During my last review I discussed their tart cherry juice in more detail so this time it's smoothies.
I can not drink enough smoothies. And one of beautiful things about making one is it's near fool proof. Pretty hard to mess up a smoothie! Just throw some ice, yogurt, or milk (I go for almond milk), smoothie packs, bananas or other fruits, maybe some protein powder and hit blend. Bam. Done!

I was super happy to see that they sent me a mango cherry flavor! Two of my favs in one pack!
After trying one the verdict was pretty much set: yumminess! Very flavorful! Added a nice zing to my smoothie.
So with that being said I kind of didn't save any of the mango cherry flavored for y'all ... So sorry. But I will be giving away FOUR packs of their cherry smoothie packs which are just as yummy. I bet you could add mango fruit to the mix and it'd be super yum. So ahem, now for the giveaway! You have several chances to enter here with rafflecopter. Like my good friends at CheriBundi. Tweet it up! Spread the cherry love.

Should you want to try that flavor now (or any other flavor or product) the good folks at CheriBundi have offered my readers a 5% discount! Just use promo code during checkout: JFF2014
It's good through JULY 1!

**Disclosure: I was provided the CheriBundi products at no charge to me to provide an honest review. No other compensation was provided. All opinions and thoughts are my own!**

Moderation. #WisdomWednesday.

While this is true, how do we know when our body has met it's limit? The goal isn't to kill ourself. Have you heard the phrase,
"I'd rather burn out than rust out?"
That's dumb. Because either way you're out. The goal is to remain in the game.
Learn how to listen to your body's cues and warning signals. Rest when in doubt. Your body rebuilds and repairs itself when you rest. So does your mind and spirit.
Learning your body can take some time, but take the time to learn it well.
Resting is a challenge for me personally because I hate feeling unproductive. But in reality, not resting causes me in the long run to less productive, over emotional, and a train wreck waiting to happen. Our bodies and minds can only handle so much!
All things in moderation. Work hard. Play hard. And don't forget to rest easy.

#Monday Motivation and New Running Fuels!

Truth: running helps keep me sane. Helps clear my mind.

Oh, and please forgive the format today. It bothers me when I can't embed links! Ahhh! Blogging on the run. I'll be cleaning up a few things tomorrow when I get time. K? Thanks :-)
So on that note,
Good day errrrrbody! A few things today: y'all remember my post from last Thursday about running in heat and humidity?

Well one of the best tips for running in h & h is to STAY HYDRATED! So this week I'll be focusung on trying out some new runing fuels and I'll be hosting TWO giveaways. What?! I know. I know. It's exciting. I'll throw one out on Tuesday and one out on Thursday, so stay tuned.  The good folks from EnergyBits contacted me and will be sending me a pack in the mail this week to try out and offered to give one lucky reader of mine a pack too! (And I somehow lucked out and won another pack from Run Like a Bird. Check her blog out!
And my friends from CheriBundi, you may remember my cherry love, has sent me more goodies to try and share! I'll have more smoothie packs to giveaway! I swear by their tart cherry juice for muscle soreness. Really! I haven't been using ibuprofen since I don't know when!
Two other products I'm trying, NUUN and honey stingers. No giveaways here yet on these products but I'm betting I may have some in the future.

I purchased these on a whim, since I couldn't find my fav ClifBar ShotBloks, while shopping for new running gear from Dick's sporting goods. I grabbed some compression shorts by Under Armour. UA is probably one of my favorite brands to run in! Excited to try these itty bitty bad boys out. Should keep me cool this summer.

***Have you tried any of the above products? Favorites? What other fuels do you use to aid in energy and hydration? Favorite running brand(s)?***

RQOTD: favorite vegetable? Baby carrots!! I love them so much I'm trying to grow my own in my makeshift garden.

Tips & Tricks Thursday: Heat & Humidity Running.

Hello my long lost warmer weather! How I've missed you. Not.
74* feels like 125* for a runner sometimes!
I know this 63% humidity and 74* is nothing compared to what many of you face. But this is only the beginning and I'm a heatstroke waiting to happen. Remember my Firecracker Run two years ago? I felt like I've made tremendous progress since then though. Kept a steady pace today for 5 miles. How did I? I've got a few tricks up my sports bra er sleeve...
On my last 8 miler I ran like this:
I have no shame I tell you. I brought my small fuel belt water bottle and stuffed it in the back of my sports bra. But it kept falling out so I stuffed in front. Third boob. Cool. Literally it kept me cool. If you have no shame like I, try stuffing a small ice filled water bottle down there. Keeps your center cool. ;-)

Bike ride and momma run!

Yesterday was National Running Day! I ran 4 miles for 6/4!
Here's a few Tips & Tricks I find useful for myself!

  • HYDRATE. ERRRRRRDAY. Hydration isn't just a pre-race thing. It's a daily habit. Make being well hydrated a lifestyle.
  • Use Powerade or other supplements to fuel your body. You need sodium, magnesium and other fun electrolytes. You lose many of those electrolytes and minerals when you sweat. I am a salty sweater. mmm. yum
  • Wear loose, light, micro-fiber clothing.
  • Don't neglect your SPF! Hats, shades.
  • Slow your roll. Heat will slow your pace. Allow it too. If you don't you could risk dehydration or damaging your body's system.
  • Try running as early in the am if possible. Or avoid high humidity. Check out this great article from Runner's World HERE on running in humidity. Excellent article from Marathon Guide HERE on running in heat. "Respect the heat."
  • Allow sufficient time for your body to become acclimated to the increase in temps. Don't just go out and try to run 10 miles fast. Bad, bad idea. Gradually build your intensity and mileage outside. It will take your body about two weeks with consistent running in the heat to acclimate.
  • Ditch the diet soda, watch your alcohol intake! Soda and alcohol can dehydrate.

Be on the lookout for another great CheriBundi giveaway soon! I'm a fan of cherry juice! Can ya tell?!
I LOVE Mango! Mixed with cherry and we have heaven.

CheriBundi Rocks!

**Your turn! How do you fare in the summer months? Do you slow down? Any summer races? Any tips you can share?**
I'll be attempting the Firecracker Run 10k again
RQOTD: Are a tv series show watcher? I used to be I to an American Idol fan. I have a secret singing talent. ;-)

Wisdom Wednesday: Yesterday and Insecurities.

We can waste our time with worry over our yesterday's troubles, but where does that leave us? Stuck in yesterday. What about TODAY? Why rob ourselves of NEW and fresh chances to rock our corners of the world? I know this is something I definitely have to work on. Daily. While yesterday may offer some valuable lessons, it doesn't offer repeats. No doing over the day. It's done. Which means we must learn, leave yesterday alone, and carry on.
One reason we dwell in the past, I believe, is our own insecurities. Fears. Doubts. Each time that 'ol devil (or whatever mean thing) tries to remind you of your past hurts, mistakes, or mishaps, try replacing those thoughts with positive images and thoughts. For example, when I'm tempted to say I'm not beautiful enough, I'm too short, I lost my temper again the other day so I must be a horrible emotional wreck of a woman...
I'll remind myself of that time:
I kept my cool at work during crazy hour and even helped someone else figure their problem out.
I made an awesome dinner and left the kitchen in tact. **insert happy dance here**
I ran a fast race. A personal best. Even on short legs!
I made a special lunch or dinner date for my honey.
I ran a 22 miler on my own.
I encouraged young ladies to run and be their bests.
I helped my son learn and grow. Taught him how to be strong yet kind.

Now you: what thoughts can you replace?

We all have some horrible experiences or difficult times in our pasts. We all have our own little sets of 'screw ups', hang ups, and guilt. I'm no saint.
We also have so much good in us! Past, present, and future.
Run towards the prize. Run relentlessly forward
The best is yet to come. Stay hopeful my friends. And when you need a shoulder, you know where to find me.

Motivational Monday: Pssssht. What Motivation?!

Short and to the point. Okay, blogger friends, I need you today! This post is so late and I totally didn't finish two posts I started for last Thursday and Friday. And I didn't run Sunday or today. Geez. I'm feeling like a lethargic loser. Weekend was busy but no excuses, right? Especially if I have a BQ on my mind.

This made me chuckle:

I'm pretty sure I posted this next pic on my Facebook wall a while ago...pssshht.  Where did it go?! If you find my missing motivation I'll gladly reward you handsomely with something awesome. Like a ... High five! Yeah, you know you want my high five.

not. today.

Motivation mission feeling impossible.

*Please Comment below and in three sentences or less remind me to get after it! Or where you find your motivation when it goes missing.*
And in return I'll leave a comment for you on your blog! Let's link up! I'd love to add some more bloggers I follow to my list.

One of my favorite things about blogging is the opportunity to reach out and connect with other like minded peeps. Those who can relate and encourage! Thanks y'all are the best. ;-)
